The details:
The house
-E210 at Blind Pass
Our apartment is
one of the largest two bedroom units on Sanibel at
1300 sq ft. The master bedroom has a queen
bed, love seat and a bath with a tub and shower.
The guest room has two twin beds and a bathroom
across the hall with walk-in shower. The living
room will seat a large group and has a surround
sound system with CD player, a large flatscreen television and dvd
player. The bookshelves are stocked with books and
family games, such as Scrabble, cards, Trivial
Pursuit and more. The dining room has seating for
eight around the table and a cozy breakfast nook by
the window overlooking the trees and tennis court.
The kitchen is fully equipped with range,
refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker,
blender, dishes, glasses, pots and pans, utensils,
bowls and more – everything you need to prepare
complete meals as well as serve easy snacks. There
is a full size washer and dryer off the kitchen.
The unit is centrally air conditioned and has
ceiling fans in every room.
The apartment
comes with linens including beach towels. Basic
supplies such as dish soap, laundry detergent and
bath soaps are supplied. In our spacious walk-in
closets you will find beach supplies such as chairs,
umbrellas, noodles, coolers, sand toys, the famous
Sanibel shelling nets, and we have a portable
crib/playpen and highchair for families with young
ones.
There is a
beautiful warm water pool with lounges, chairs and
tiki huts, showers and bathroom facilities just
steps from our apartment, as well as tennis courts –
racquets and balls can be borrowed at the office.
Drinks can be brought to the pool area from the
house (in plastic cups) and it is just steps to go
back to the house for anything else you may need.
Kayaks can be borrowed for use in the nearby lagoon.
We are on the
second floor, the windows offer a good
view of the community pool and the tennis court,
both just
steps from the house. We are close enough to view,
but far away enough to not hear voices. The grounds
are beautifully landscaped with flowering bushes and
palm trees. The apartment is sunny and bright with
the shades open and cozy and private with the shades
closed.
Surroundings
- beaches
We are a five
minute walk to a pristine sandy beach with a private
path. All beaches in Sanibel are available to the
public, but this section feels private because the
only entrance to it is from the Blind Pass Resort.
You can walk for miles and miles in either direction
along the beach and in no time at all you will find
yourself alone.
The sunsets on
Sanibel are stunning. You will want to plan your
day so as to be on a beach at sundown. And
often, dolphins will join you near the shore. The
water is warm almost year round and the waves are
gentle. The shelling on Sanibel is legendary –
small beautiful shells found in large mounds along
the beach just invite you to stoop and sift through
them, and you may find yourself taking more home
than you imagine.
Surroundings
- stores
We are on the
more secluded end of Sanibel, but there are
convenient stores not far away. There is a
convenience/general store one mile toward Captiva,
and a full grocery store (also a hardware store,
video store, day spa and cinema) four miles in the
other direction. A bit further and you will be in
the town area, with many restaurants and shops along
the sleepy Periwinkle Drive, the main road that
spans the island.
Surroundings
- activities
The island has a
beautiful bike path from one end to the other and it
is easy to rent bicycles for the day or week or
anything in between. The rental companies will
deliver and pick the bicycles when you are done –
nothing could be easier. There are bicycles riders
and walkers and joggers along the route, but it is
quiet and very safe.
Another delight
of Sanibel is the
Ding Darling Nature Preserve; a
maintained road through the mangrove and pine
forests of the island. You can drive or bike or walk
the four mile road and encounter many beautiful
birds and wells as rabbits, raccoons, crabs among
the mangrove roots, and jumping fish in the lakes –
and occasionally spot an alligator lounging in the
shallows (behind the wooden barrier).
Just past the
Nature Preserve is
Tarpon Bay, where you can rent
canoes or kayaks and paddle out to see dolphins and
manatee in their natural habitat. For those who
love fishing, there are many options for guided or
unguided boat and fishing gear rentals for half days
or whole days – and many fish to be caught, brought
home or to a local restaurant and prepared fresh
that same day.
There are fun
and family-friendly restaurants as well as romantic
dining options throughout the islands – both on
Sanibel and Captiva. The islands are relaxed and
quiet offer many opportunities to be in nature and
at the same time have all the comforts of home. It
makes for a very relaxing and beautiful vacation and
time of renewal – either with the family or on your
own. Some people describe Sanibel Island as a
Hawaii within reach, particularly on our end of the
island where things tend to be quiet and surrounded
by nature.
About Blind
Pass and our home
Sanibel has been
a magical place for our family for eighteen years;
our children have come to love it and consider it a
home away from home, full of wonderful memories and
happy times together. Blind Pass is the most
comfortable place to stay – in every season, in the
most beautiful part of the island. We invite you to
share our home there and wish you joyful times and
happy memories.
